Installation and Setup

  1. Subscribe to Schedules Direct, if you haven’t already.
  2. Download the Typecast installer.

  3. Run the installer. This will install Typecast, create a shortcut on the Windows Desktop, and open Typecast.
When you run the installer, Windows may display a “Windows protected your PC” warning. If so, click More info, and on the next screen, click Run anyway. (This is because I don’t pay US$100/year for a code-signing certificate.)
  4. Typecast will prompt you to enter your Schedules Direct login credentials so that it can download data from Schedules Direct.
  5. If you want to use e-mail actions, follow the instructions below to set them up.
  6. If you want to use the optional Windows Media Center features, follow the instructions on the Windows Media Center page.

Every time you start Typecast, it will automatically check for a new release and update itself. If there’s an update, Typecast informs you that you’ll have to restart it to use the update.

Note: Typecast uses .NET Framework 4.7.2 which Windows 10 installs automatically. If you’re using an older version of Windows, you may need to install it yourself.

Configure E-Mail Actions (optional)

The mail action needs your e-mail server and credentials in order to send e-mail.

  1. Exit Typecast.
  2. Find where Typecast is installed. It will be in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\12noon\Typecast\app-#.##.##\. In that folder is a Plugins folder.
  3. Edit the Mail.config file in the Plugins folder.
  4. Enter (or modify) values for the following keys:
    • SMTPServer
    • SMTPPort
    • SMTPSSL
    • SMTPUserName
    • SMTPPassword

(The Mail action encrypts your credentials the first time it runs, so you don’t have to worry about them being exposed.)

  5. Save the file and run Typecast.

I recommend that you back up the Mail.config file, just in case.

(I plan to make this easier in the future.)

You can also customize the stylesheet in the Mail.config file to make the e-mail look the way YOU want it to.
